Collograph workshop Wellington july 2011

I was involved in a great workshop in Wellington on 10th July at the Solander Gallery where I taught a group of printmakers from Wellington and around the region, a number of collograph techniques. We worked with Akua inks throughout the day and explored the idea of working in Tondo format. Working with water based inks was ideal in an enclosed space. This meant no fumes and very little mess.
While the space is quite tight, working in the gallery was a great experience. Many thanks to Vincent who was a more than able technician throughout the day and who supplied the. Here are the photos from the workshop at the Gallery. The participants produced more than one print each, worked with a number of colours both in intaglio and plate wipe. We used Magnani paper throughout making a paper post at the beginning of the day. A couple of bottles of shellac some meths and a small amount of the ink. What a great day.

the hero with a thousand faces

I have finally managed to print the first of a series of twelve works based on the writings of Joseph Campbell. The first image is called the Call to Adventure" A really amazing book that has set me on yet another path of
work. I seem to be hooked into a specific way of working that sets up long term projects. The first drypoint has taken a couple of months to finish and while I am not that happy about the final work I have begun to sort out the images and the ideas for the next eleven works. Like all previous prints there are a number of meaning and interpretations within the print, from the bath sitting on piles of books to eight shovels pushed into a pile of dirt .
